Our Mission
Brighten Up Baton Rouge is on a mission to enhance the cleanliness, beauty, and livability of our community. This yearlong, “all hands- on- deck” effort asks citizens and government to cross collaborate on initiatives worthy of us, and the place we call home.
Message from Mayor Broome
Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome
When we think of Baton Rouge—and Louisiana, our rich culture and environment are sure to come to mind. Our natural resources provide for us. Much of our culture stems from the assets of our land, air, and water, which makes this Sportsman’s Paradise.
This is why it is vitally important for everyone to work together to address litter in Baton Rouge. Litter poses a threat to what makes us great and affects our quality of life, causes flooding and drainage issues, pollutes the air, and affects the overall attractiveness of our great city.
My administration has been committed to improving the quality of place but cannot take on the challenging task alone.
I’ve always held the belief that we’re stronger and better together. Through the combined powers of enforcement measures, education, improved processes, and citizen activism-we can share in the peace, prosperity, and progress of our wonderful community.
Brighten Up Baton Rouge, is a one year initiative to progress to a future free from litter, a future in which citizens and government together, tackle issues by stepping in and create change – activating our best selves in support of the place we call home.
The more engagement from our community, the more success we will achieve!
Thank you for your commitment to making transformative change in East Baton Rouge.
Who We Are
We believe that our citizens have the right to live in a community that is clean and beautiful. We are business leaders, city parish organizations, community leaders, nonprofits, and volunteer groups that encourage citizen involvement throughout our parish to ensure that our quality of life, and the quality of life we leave for future generations is one of a more sustainable future where individual people have the power to change our city towards a litter free Baton Rouge and a more vibrant, magnificent capital city.
Working together there is nothing we cannot accomplish to Brighten Up Baton Rouge.
